Our old friends Chris and Flo Laing had invited us to Kona where Flo liked to spend November. It is a very nice place to for that particular month. She even met us at the airport with the traditional leis; what a nice touch.
Hawaii is a place to relax, and that we did. Our condo looked out over the golf course and onto the ocean, it was off the beaten track and very quiet. The biggest excitement was waiting for the “green flash” every evening as the sun set over the horizon. The weather was perfect, every day. Every single day.
An avid diver, Chris took us to his favourite place, just north of the airport. The instructor was so good, so easy, so used to stupid tourists, and he had done this so often, that after one session in the pool, both Wendy and I were swimming through caves 50 feet below the surface. Just a remarkable experience.
Ever been in a lava tube? I managed to go down about fifty feet before I decided that was enough of that.
